Winson Barn

In the heart of a peaceful Cotswolds village lies a harmonious family home, extensively reconfigured and re-imagined. Undercover Architecture worked with Plain English to embrace traditional proportions in this slow build.

Digging down into the adjacent hillside offered a new, dramatically vaulted interior dining space. A run of Spitalfields cupboards creates a long dresser for breakfast essentials, including a concealed beverage fridge and coffee bar. The adjacent kitchen leaned on French country influences, evident in the design of the central chimney. Plentiful drawers and cupboards below ensure bountiful storage is at hand, while counterstanding open shelves above are suited for accessible glassware and cookbooks. The boot and laundry room is a hardwearing, welcoming place to kick off muddy Wellies and hang coats before coming inside.

Intentionality shaped the final result. Mouldy Plum paint reflects the violet-gray local palette, while yolk yellow and blue-green hues deliver light and durability. A contemplation of past and present.
