BOOT ROOMS

A Boot room is generally positioned at the everyday entrance to a house. A space in which muddy boots and wet coats are removed and stored. A popular space to continue the Plain English visual language in a project and to set the tone moving into the home, often in a simpler iteration. With a need to be practical and functional the design process might include discussion on the types of storage required, for example, open vs closed, hooks, shelves, etc. Conditions of moisture and possibly muddy boots and shoes, sports equipment, dogs, leashes, and school bags may all need to be in this room and the cupboards and joinery need to be hardwearing. If space allows, a washing-up sink or area for dealing with muddy paws makes a welcome addition. A useful room at the end of a day spent gardening, often doubling as a flower room with shelving for vases and baskets. Many of the same design considerations continue— storage, suitability of materials, and surfaces all enter the conversation.
