PARK SLOPE BROWNSTONE

A townhouse in Brooklyn, NY, notable for its period details and original plasterwork manages a seamless transition between its roots as a 1889 landmarked Romanesque-revival and the design of the new kitchen and larder. The architect added a cantilevered bay window to the back of the building, which enlarged the footprint and gave additional floor space and light. A large window over the sink draws the gaze to the garden outside and the range cooker’s central position within two pillars gives the sense of an old fireplace. The main kitchen is painted in “Army Camp” while the larder, which acts as a central repository for all the necessities of entertaining, sits on the side wall, creating a quiet transition to the sitting room beyond.
